Doris Morris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Congleton Funeral Home and Cremations - Greenville on Dec. 26, 2025.
"Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."

Proverbs 31 25-28 (KJV)

Doris Marie Best Morris was born March 20, 1936 to the late John Best and Lila Council Best. She was a native of Martin County and graduated from West Martin High School, Oak City, NC. During her early years, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Oak City, NC and later became a member of Mt. Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church of Bethel, NC.

On November 24, 1955, Doris married the love of her life, Johnny Morris. To this union, God blessed them with eleven children, seven boys and four girls.

Doris grew up on her family farm in Martin County where she diligently worked alongside her siblings and then later worked the farm alongside her children instilling in them the value of hard work. Also, she was an avid cook and baker.

On December 25, 2025, God decided that Doris had "fought a good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith." (II Timothy 4:7).

Doris was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Morris and her siblings: Mary Best Bell, John Richard Best, Edna Best, Argaretta Best Spruill, Hazel Best Taylor, and Margaretta Best.

Sometimes it's hard to understand

Why certain things must be.

But there is a reason for it all

Beyond our power to see.

God gives us strength to face it

And courage to bear the blow.

For what it meant to lose you

No one but God will ever know.
