Doris Ploof

Doris (Danis) Ploof, age 88, of Colchester, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the McClure Miller Respite House.
She was one of eight children, born in 1937 to Donat and Bea Danis. Doris grew up in Lakeside, Burlington. She met the love of her life, Edward Ploof, Sr., during their freshman year of high school, announcing to her cousin that she would marry that man one day. Doris and Ed were married in February of 1955, raising their children, modeling honesty and faith.
Doris began her career outside the home when their youngest child started school. She was a long-time employee at IBM and UVM Medical Center in Patient Financial Services.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, and baking. Many Christmas memories were made around her delicious German chocolate cake. Doris, a devout Catholic woman, would pray for all, and hung a rosary in faith for good weather during loved ones' weddings or special events. Doris and Ed enjoyed traveling together, however they deeply valued time gather with their family.
She is survived by her spouse, Ed, and their six children and their spouses, Linda and Robbie of Connecticut, Ed, Jr. and Kathy of Missouri, Cindy and Pat, Karen and Bruce, John, Sr. and Lorrie, and Bunny and Peter, all of Vermont. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by four of her siblings, Velma, Nancy, Donald, and Danny.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 416 Church Road, Colchester. A reception celebrating her legacy will follow in the church hall.
