Doris Roscoe

Doris Barker Roscoe, age 92, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday January 21, 2024 at Parkview Retirement Center.
She was born in Alamance County, NC on March 13, 1931 to the late Paul Gilliam Barker and Myrtle Wagoner Barker. Mrs. Roscoe grew up in Ossipee and graduated as Valedictorian of her Altamahaw-Ossipee High School Class. She attended Women's College (now UNC-G) in Greensboro upon graduating high school. Doris was married to the late Dr. William Don Roscoe, Sr. for 68 years and has lived in Sanford and Bear Creek during her life. She was a long-time member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church.
Doris was an extraordinary mother of five boys and critical in helping her husband establish his Optometric practice in Sanford. Doris & Don were very loving and involved grandparents. They were so proud of their sons and their families. Their love, kindness and wisdom will continue to live on.
Doris and her husband Don traveled extensively. They explored exotic places all over the world, made lots of new friends and came back with endless stories. The family photos show camel & elephant rides, The Great Wall of China, Museums of Russia, usually places with historical significance.
Doris enjoyed working in her garden and yard. Growing up on a dairy and tobacco farm taught her to value hard work and nature. Raising five boys was hard work too. We all think she did a pretty good job. She will be missed by many.
Along with her parents and her husband, Mrs. Roscoe was predeceased by her brothers Dean Barker, Wayne Barker & Charles Barker and sister Nancy Hall. She is survived by her sons; Keith Roscoe and wife Catina of Greensboro, Dr. Douglas Roscoe and wife Deborah of Sanford, Dr. Don Roscoe, Jr. of Sanford, Randy Roscoe and wife Darlene of Evergreen, CO, Jeff Roscoe and wife Sandra of Pittsboro; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 3, 2024 1:00 PM at Jonesboro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Wesley Center of Jonesboro United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Doris Roscoe's memory to Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 407 W. Main Street, Sanford, NC 27332.
