Martha Simons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on Feb. 5, 2026.
Martha C. Simons, 66, of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away on January 31, 2026, at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice, following an extended illness.

Martha was born on July 29, 1959, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Calvin W. and Jeanie W. (née McKellin) Cronk. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School. In 1984, Martha moved to Tampa, Florida, then to Naples in 1985, before finally settling in Bonita Springs in 1987, where she made her home for nearly four decades.

In 1985, Martha became a licensed massage therapist after attending massage school, a career that reflected her caring and compassionate nature. In 1990, she met the love of her life, William C. "Bill" Simons. They were married on November 11, 1990, at Unity Church in Naples, Florida, and shared 35 years of devoted marriage.

Dedicated to serving her community, Martha ran for Bonita Springs City Council in 2004 and was elected to represent District 5. She proudly served two terms, representing her district until 2012. Following her service on the City Council, Martha selflessly cared for her mother after she was diagnosed with dementia, relocating her from Sanford, North Carolina, to Bonita Springs. Martha lovingly cared for her mother until her passing on August 30, 2019.

Martha was a member of the Bonita Springs Lions Club, the American Legion Post 303 Auxiliary, the VFW Post 4254 Auxiliary, and the Bonita Springs Chamber of Commerce.

In June of 2024, Martha was diagnosed with cancer. She faced her illness with grace, strength, and dignity until her passing on Saturday night.

She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Bill Simons of Bonita Springs, Florida; her brother, David Cronk and his wife, Connie, of Wilmington, North Carolina; her sister, Maggie Cronk of Sanford, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Cronk and Paul Cronk, and her sister, Mary Sue Cronk.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs, Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, Florida.

Interment will take place on Tuesday at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
