DORIS SANDMANN Obituary

DORIS SANDMANN 02/07/1935 - 12/16/2025 Doris Ann R. Sandmann, 90, of Morgan passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, surrounded by her family at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Morgan and Redwood Falls is in charge of the arrangements. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com. Doris Ann R. Sandmann, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully. She was born on February 7, 1935, to William and Ella (Rickers) Kirschstein. Doris lived a life filled with love, dedication, and community spirit. Doris graduated from Morgan High School in 1952, embarking on a journey that would see her serve as a devoted secretary at Morgan High School for 22 years before retiring in 1998. Her commitment to education touched the lives of many. On June 5, 1954, Doris married the love of her life, James Sandmann. Together they built a beautiful life, filled with laughter and love, until his passing in June 2011. Doris cherished their years together and found solace in the loving memories they created as a family. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Doris was an active member of United Methodist Church in Morgan where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. Her beautiful voice resonated through the church as she sang in the choir, uplifting the spirits of those around her with every note. Doris was also proud of her contributions to her community. She served as an active member of Zetetic Club, always eager to lend a helping hand and bring people together. She also supported her husband's commitment to Lion's Club. She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts; her daughters, Kathy (Scott) Potter of Brainerd, Sharon (Kevin) Hyland of Austin, Lori Sandmann of Colfax, Iowa, Julie (Kirk) Friesner of New Ulm, and her sons, Bob (Monica) Sandmann of Morgan, and Jeff (Kareen) Sandmann of Grimes, Iowa. Doris is also survived by her 16 cherished grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her boundless joy and pride. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; William and Ella Kirschstein; her beloved husband James; her brother Elmer Kirschstein; and son in-law Kirk Friesner. Though they may have parted ways in life, the bonds of love they shared will forever remain unbroken. As we remember Doris, let us celebrate the kindness she bestowed upon all, the lessons she imparted, and the love that she so generously shared. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Doris. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts. Blessed be her memory.
