Doris P. Spivey, 95, of Sanford passed away on Tuesday March 25, 2025. A celebration of life will be held at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home at 11am on May 17, 2025.
Doris was born in 1929 in Lee Co. to the late Ivey W. Poole and Norene Fields Choplin. Doris loved to travel with her adventures taking her to multiple countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa just to name a few. She enjoyed cooking and making meals for her family. She was also a talented seamstress and would sew and knit sweaters for her family. Her greatest pride was her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was their biggest fan and supporter, spending many hours at ball games, school events and swim meets cheering for them.
Her life was a story of grace, kindness and Christian values, and she leaves a legacy of fairness, joy and love.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband SGM Lonnie Spivey Jr. and her sister Lucille P. Buchanan.
She is survived by her daughters Leslee Spivey, and Lucille Rice (John); sister Marquetta Baker (Ralph); grandchildren Daniel Ratliff (Alicia), Timothy Ratliff (Lindsay), Elizabeth Charles (Derwin), and Michael Rice (Ashley); great grandchildren Cohen Ratliff, Luci Ratliff, Evelynne Ratliff, Brahm Ratliff, Suzi Ratliff, Hallie Charles, Kelsey Charles, and Derwin Charles; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Jeannie Garrell and Mike Tannenbaum.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
