Doris Suarez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremations of Greater Tampa Bay, Inc. - Tampa on Jan. 29, 2026.
Doris Maria Henry Suarez was born into this world on June 23, 1941 in Panama City, Panama. She was the second daughter of Thomas Henry and Florence Davy Henry. From her younger years she was very compassionate and thoughtful, always looking out for the well being of others. She was a bright student and attended the Liceo De Señoritas school in Panama City. Her professional studies continued in Costa Rica where she was enrolled at the Colegio de Enfermeras de Costa Rica (College of Nursing of Costa Rica). She graduated from their nursing program in 1969 and after many years of studying abroad returned home to Panama and worked as a nurse at the Santo Tomas Hospital in Panama City.

In 1980 Doris immigrated to the United States and settled into the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where she continued her calling as a nurse and soon began working at the Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan. With her quiet disposition, she was always eager to comfort those around her and bring a sense of peace to any space she was in. It was in Brooklyn that she met her husband, Rolando Suarez. In 1990, the couple relocated to Valrico, FL where she continued her work as a nurse. She worked at several area hospitals, nursing homes, as well as the detention center at the Orient Road Jail. She loved her work and cheerfully helped to care for others until her retirement. Doris and Rolando enjoyed each other's company into their golden years. They traveled together and celebrated life with loved one's and friends, often hosting parties and celebrations at their home. Doris remained a loving and devoted partner and wife to Rolando until his passing in 2017.

In her later years as a resident and patient at the Colonnade Assisted Living Facility, she enjoyed in her role as a resident ambassador. Her warm hearted and caring nature was always happy to welcome and befriend new residents and be a supportive and encouraging participant in the weekly activities. She enjoyed the arts and crafts and listening to old classic tunes the most.

Her final years were spent at the Casa Loreto Assisted Living Facility, whose staff often commented on how kind and sweet she always was. Even when dealing with her own discomfort and illness she was always eager to smile and spread good cheer.

Her last breath was taken on the evening of July 3rd, 2025. She was 84 years old and enjoyed a full life constantly bringing light and love to those around her in spite of her own challenges. Heaven received a new angel that day.

Doris is survived by her sister, Betty Agostini, nephew, Robert Millett, first cousin and caretaker, Sonia Grant, first cousin, Marta Sena, first cousin,Tito Mata, and a host of other loving family members and friends.
