Doris (Johnson) Suomi, 94, of Lantana, FL. passed away on April 20, 2024. Doris was born on July 2, 1929 in Painsedale, MI, to Axel and Ellen (Trasti) Johnson.
Doris graduated in 1947 from Houghton High School, and in November of 1947 she was united in marriage to John "Riku Harkonen" Suomi in Houghton, MI. They moved to Ashby, MA in 1955, where they raised their family. Riku passed away in December of 1967 leaving Doris and their 12 children to mourn. In 1978, Doris moved to Lantana, FL. with her 3 youngest daughters.
Doris is survived by eight daughters, Virginia and husband Paul Anderson of SC. Verna and husband Robert Maki of MA. Leona York of MI. Teresa and husband Gary Palosaari of MI. Doreen Suomi of MA. Grace Hannu of SC. Andrea and husband Peter Lappi of MI. Loralee Martin of WV. Two sons, Rodney Suomi and wife Hannah of MA. and Randy Suomi and wife Lona of ID. As well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Riku, two daughters, Jolene Sohlden and Marilyn Suomi, and two granddaughters, Megan and Samantha.
Doris' funeral service was held in Lake Worth, FL. on April 26, 2024. Her burial will take place on May 3, 2024 in Ashby, MA, at West Cemetery, with a luncheon and time of fellowship with the family immediately following at the Ashburnham Apostolic Lutheran Church at 315 Winchendon Road Ashburnham, MA 01430.
