It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Laverne Thomas, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, at the age of 97. Doris’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication.
Born on a sunny Saturday, June 9th, 1928, in Fort Valley, Georgia, Doris spent her rich and fulfilling life in her beloved state, settling in Macon, Georgia, where she became an integral part of the community. Doris dedicated many years of her life as a housekeeper at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon, lending her meticulous touch and compassionate heart to all she did. Her dedication to her work and the people around her mirrored her life's passion: to put others first.
Doris was a woman of simple pleasures who cherished her flowers and thrived in her passion for cooking, providing warmth and delight to her loved ones through her culinary creations. Her generosity of spirit and nurturing nature were felt by all who had the joy of knowing her.
Doris is survived by her loving children: sons, Warren Thomas, Henry Thomas, and Jerry Thomas, and daughters, Beverly (Vernon) Hudson and Sarah Gail Thomas. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her long and fruitful life. She also leaves behind her brothers, Sidney (Sue) Bryant, Dennis Bryant, and Bobby (Stephanie) Bryant, as well as her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Thomas, whose love and support colored the chapters of her life.
She now joins in eternal rest her dearly departed parents, Lloyd Lewis Bryant and Ella Mae Bryant, along with her beloved husband, Henry Cousby Thomas Jr. and son, Jay Thomas.
A private graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at New Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. Doris’s spirit, full of independence and warmth, shall remain with us in every flower’s bloom and every lovingly prepared meal.
