John P. Thomas

John P. Thomas, age 84, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola, Indiana. He was born October 5, 1941, in Woodbury, New Jersey to James and Helen (Van Rensselaer) Thomas. John married Diana Miller on July 7, 1983, and she preceded him in death on October 29, 2023.
John graduated from Jackson Community College and went on to have a lengthy career working for Ford Motor Company. He was an active member of the Hillsdale Orthodox Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed participating in men's fellowship and serving any way he could. John enjoyed collecting tools, tinkering with new technology and studying history and theology. He has a great passion for learning new things and growing in his faith, that even in his passing the focus would remain on Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Erin) Thomas of Monticello, Florida, and Daniel Thomas of Adrian; one daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Thomas; ten grandchildren, Marisa (Taylor) Lee, Quinton (Ashley) Thomas, Zachary (Erika) Thomas, Kaitlyn Thomas, Matthew (Leah) Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Abigail Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, Anthony (Abby) Thomas, and Savanna Marowelli; and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Lee, Emma Grace Lee, and Anders.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony Thomas, and Christopher Thomas; one brother, James VR Thomas; and his best friend, Larry Lawrence.
Funeral services for John Thomas will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Rev. Everett Henes officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Lake Valley Cemetery in Hillsdale. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
