Doris Trujillo Obituary

Doris Hudson Trujillo
March 29, 2025
Doris Hudson Trujillo, age 72, passed peacefully, in her home, with her children, granddaughter, and husband, Herminio Trujillo, by her side on March 29, 2025, in Alpine, UT. Born on September 19,1952, in New Haven, CT, to her parents, Richard and Dolores Hudson. Doris is survived by two sisters, Rose (Bob) Costanzo, Renee (Gary) DeLeone, and was pre-deceased by her brother, Richard (Patti) Hudson. They raised 5 children, Arianna, David, Christophe, Alicia, and Aaron. Doris is the grandmother of Alexis, Chloe, Liam, Luca, Gabriela, and Maxine. She found deep joy in being with her family and grandchildren. She loved her view of the mountains. Doris was an incredible teacher, dancer, and choreographer. She completed her education with a MA from Brigham Young University. Doris co-founded a professional dance company, "Contemporary Dance Works", held adjunct positions at Weber State, U of U, BYU, and was a professor of dance at UVU. She retired as department chair in 2020. Doris is missed dearly, but we take comfort in knowing she is dancing, laughing, and singing again!

So sorry for the loss of Doris. Doris and I grew up together in the Pine View neighborhood. We had a wonderful time growing up and running between each others homes. Such fond memories.

I have fond memories of Doris when we were at SHA. She was always soft spoken and kind. I take comfort knowing she is now dancing in heaven. May her family find peace in the gifts she has given us.

Doris was formative in my career. She believed in me and supported my success. I always appreciated her commitment to excellence and her sense of humor. I have missed her influence in my life since her retirement and grieve her passing.

I am so grateful for the influence Doris has been in my life. She served with vision as Dance Liason with the Utah state Board of Education and was a founding member and fourth president of the Utah Dance Education Organization. Our paths criss-crossed joyously as we worked together on dance and arts education initiatives, conferences, and workshops for over 30 years.

Doris, I have always loved your smile, kindness, wisdom and work ethic. Our adventures in UDEO, arts ed. AND at Snow College Summer Arts Institutes with Jean Irwin, Carol Goodson and great artists from around the state were inspiring and full of fun.

I love you my beautiful friend. Peace and blessings to you, Herminio, your family and all who have been blessed by your example.

A kind and creative life well-lived. Doris was a most cherished collaborator, a creative inspiration, an effective academic organizer, and a trusted friend. She promoted my own work and was a support to many of us in our own professional and artistic endeavors. It has been a privilege to know you as a mentor and colleague.

Doris had a huge impact on my life! I first met her when we brought her to our school (Rees Elementary) as an artist in residence. On her last day she left me a copy of First Steps in Teaching Creative Dance by Mary Joyce. That was a Friday; on Monday I went into the gym with my students and that book in my hand and I taught lesson 1. From there she continued to involve me in the world of dance and I got to work with her and Carol Goodson and on the board of UDEO. Her passing is a shock to me and I will miss her so much.

Doris was one of my favorite people! She was a true artist and gifted teacher. I was fortunate to be in a dance she choreographed when I was a young student at BYU. She also taught both of my daughters who danced at UVU. When my husband first started working at UVU, his office was next to the Dance office. His first friends at UVU were my dance friends, including Doris. He organized a wonderful adventure with Contemporary Dance Company, taking them to Spain twice. We both came to love the Trujillo family, and cherish the friendship we have had with Doris and Herminio.

I have been able to get to know Doris over the years, working with Aaron. She was so kind and such a great advocate for Aaron. She had such a beautiful gift of dance and art. I pray that you will feel peace and comfort in all of the wonderful memories with Doris.
