Doris Jean Lowe Umphlett, 79, of Gatesville, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025 at GatesHealth and Rehab.
A native of Gates County, NC, Doris was the loving wife of James Earl Umphlett and the daughter of Richard Blunt Lowe and Dora Piland Lowe, both deceased. She was a true matriarch of her family. Doris loved cooking for her entire family, especially providing a meal every Tuesday evening for her immediate family where they all could share a time of love and laughter. She was an avid sports fan of all sports, with her biggest rooting for and support going to the UNC Tarheels, Washington Commanders, and the New York Yankees. Doris loved her extended family and friends and will be truly missed by all that knew her.
Survivors include her husband, James; son, Jamie Umphlett and wife, Gina; grandson, Matthew Umphlett and wife, Jenna; very special great granddaughter, Rayleigh Umphlett; sisters, Lois Hatfield, and Alice Perry; brother, Alton Lowe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Wilkins and brother, Randolph Lowe.
A graveside service celebrating Doris’ life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at the Rogerson Family Cemetery, Aulander, NC.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you and appreciation to her niece, Sheryl Lowe; nephew, Ricky Lowe and wife, Annette; and great nieces, Brittany Stevens and Crystal Ashley for their help and love shown to Doris during her declining health.
