Doris Wahls Obituary

Doris M. Wahls
Died: October 8, 2022
Doris M. Wahls, age 96, of McHenry, IL. Died October 8, 2022. Born in Milwaukee, to the late John and Gertrude (nee Thorsen) Schneider. She grew up in the apartment behind the grocery store owned by her parents. She and her sister, Gladys, often helped out in this neighborhood grocery that supported and helped neighbors during tough times. Doris, Gladys and her mom spent summers at their cottage on Little Muskego Lake with her father joining them weekends. A newer house remained in the family for visits with her own husband and children for many years.
Graduated from Lutheran High School in Milwaukee and awarded a scholarship to Valparaiso University in Indiana (graduated in 1948) where she met her husband, Robert. They were married August 28, 1948. Doris and Robert and children lived in Des Plaines before moving to McHenry where they have lived the last 55 years. A faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and Zion's Ladies Guild, Doris was involved with delivering Meals On Wheels, bridge groups and ladies' luncheons (she would remember those meals and recipes and who made them for years!).
Survived by loving family of three children, Robert Wahls (Barbara), Michael Wahls (Denise) and Rhonda Jones (Donald); and seven grandchildren Robert, Julie, Valerie, Michael, Laura, Jeffrey and Amy; and twelve great grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Robert; her parents, John and Gertrude Schneider; her sister, Gladys Krahling; and infant brother, Elroy Schneider.
