Mrs. Doris Carr Washington, 98, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 1 pm at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the directions of Griffin Mortuary.
Doris Carr Washington was born in Elkhart, TX on June 22, 1927. Her parents were Nep Carr and Mary Ann Gibson. She grew up on a farm with her brothers and sisters and she attended Rockhill High but never finished. She eventually met and married her husband A. L. Washington in Crockett, TX on December 6, 1947 and were together until his death in 1974. She worked cleaning offices and houses and she did that until she retired. One of the things she enjoyed was going to church and she became the oldest living church goer at New Hope Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband A. L. Washington, her three daughters Lee Ruth Johnson, Erma Washington, and Bessie Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother Willie Joe Carr Senior, her grandchildren Sabrina Skief, Johnny Johnson III, and Willie Johnson Jr., her great grandchildren Stacy Norris, KeyShawn Johnson, and Johnny Johnson IV, her nieces Betty Jones and Vanessa Boffman, her nephew Willie Joe Carr Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
