Doris Whitsel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by King-Barr Funeral Home, LLC - Lewistown on Feb. 18, 2026.
Doris Jean Whitsel, 88, of Lewistown, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Born February 25, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Anna (Johnson) Peace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Peace in infancy, Wesley Peace, Ray Peace, and Clifford Peace, and by her sister, Ruth Long. Dorie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Kermit Whitsel, Jr.; the two were united in marriage on February 24, 1956, and shared nearly seventy years of unwavering partnership and enduring love.; her son, Kenneth Whitsel; and her daughter, Gwen Dippery and her husband John, all of Harrisburg. She also leaves behind the great joys of her life - her grandchildren, Jason Smith, Taylor Dippery, Tyson Dippery and his wife Ellyn, Daulton Whitsel, Zoey Weigl and her husband Zach, Cassie Whitsel, and Rylie Whitsel - as well as her treasured great-grandson, Tate Dippery.

Dorie was a faithful and devoted member of Lewistown Alliance Church, where she served as a deaconess, volunteered faithfully with Vacation Bible School, and shared her love of worship through music, singing in a trio with her sister Ruth and sister-in-law Mary at churches throughout the area. Her faith shaped her life and guided the kindness she extended to everyone she met.

She found joy in both the simple and spirited moments of life - cheering on her beloved Penn State Nittany Lions on crisp fall Saturdays, sitting matside during wrestling season, listening to worship music, and even playing fantasy football, where she kept a close eye on the standings and wasn't shy about celebrating a win. In her younger years, she was known for her athleticism and could excel at nearly any sport she tried.

Above all, Dorie cherished her role as a grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to show up, encourage, celebrate, and love her family well. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and steady support, a reflection of the deep love she carried in her heart

A memorial service will be held at Noon on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Lewistown Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Avenue, Lewistown, with Pastor John Looney officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Dorie's family offers their deepest thanks to her caregivers, Candy Berryman, Becky Fultz and Chris Prough, whose gentle care, kindness, and presence brought comfort to her in her final days.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lewistown Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
