Obituary of Dorothea M. Dyer
Dorothea Alice Melfi Dyer, 97, went to be with the Lord on July 2nd. She was residing at Valley View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Montoursville, PA. Born in Syracuse, NY, daughter of Robert Burt Melfi and Ada Alice Meaker. She was raised by her grandparents, Thomas Meaker & Alice Coulter Stevens in Mattydale, NY. She graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1944 and Central City Business Institute 1945 and then worked for Lowe and Campbell Athletic Goods Co. as a secretary until she married Thomas Harrison and they had four children. She later married Lawrence Edwin Dyer Sr. in 1970. She was a beloved mother and homemaker and later worked as a secretary at Grace Episcopal Church in Cortland, NY for 16 years. She enjoyed writing poems, crocheting, reading books, collecting Wades, and various art pursuits. She loved living on Song Lake watching the changing of seasons, birds, and growing flowers. She previously attended Lafayette Alliance Church and was a former member of Bellevue Alliance Church (Cortland, NY). She was predeceased by her husbands, Thomas Harrison and Lawrence Edwin Dyer Sr. and son, David Thomas Harrison. Dorothea, called Dottee by her friends, is survived by her son, Jeffrey Harrison (spouse Joanne) of ME, and daughters, JoAnn Otto (spouse John) of PA, and Kimberly Farrell (spouse John – deceased) of TX, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and brother, William Melfi, of Groton, NY.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM Friday, July 14th at LaFayette Alliance Church 6069 US 20 LaFayette NY 13084. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Preble.
