Dorothea Mebane Fuller of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024. She was born in Washington, DC on August 23, 1931, the daughter of Col. William A. and Dorothea R. Fuller. She grew up on Army bases and during WWII, she lived in Santa Fe, NM with her mother, brother and sister while her father was stationed overseas where he died. The family moved to Lynchburg, VA where Dorothea attended Stuart Hall School and Sweet Briar College.
Dorothea has been a supporter, docent and volunteer for many of Lynchburg’s places of interest and charitable service organizations throughout her life. She had a strong connection with the history of Lynchburg and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with visitors. She attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg before changing to The Church of the Epiphany in Amherst.
Dorothea loved to travel. She and her mother traveled extensively and always provided slide shows to her family upon their return. She was interested in not only the sites of other countries, but also the people. She went on several trips with her family as well as cherished trips with friends. Her other passion was reading. She always had a book with her and mysteries were her favorite.
Dorothea is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elizabeth Davis and her brother, William Fuller. She is survived by her 4 nieces and nephews, Richard Davis, Elizabeth Treanor, John Davis and Stefanie Fuller; her 4 great nephews; her 3 great, great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothea’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Church of the Epiphany, Amherst, VA. An inurnment will be held the same day at 2:30 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Columbarium in Lynchburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: Lynchburg Museum System, 901 Court St., Lynchburg, VA 24504.
