Dorothea Kravetsky Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 13, 2025.
Dorothea Kravetsky, 96, of Orwell, VT, and formerly of Thompson, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Orwell, VT on February 26, 2025. She was the widow of Nicholas Kravetsky, who died August 11, 2016.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Peter D. and Catherine M. Neubert Volkens, Dottie met the love of her life, Nicholas Kravetsky, a farm boy from Thompson, while visiting her uncle's home. On August 20, 1949, the Brooklyn girl became a farmer's wife and moved to Thompson, Pennsylvania where she farmed with her husband and raised five children.
Dottie was known for her incredible baking skills, especially her bread and pies. She often could be found in the kitchen canning pickles, making jams, or baking, or out in the barn doing chores - always with a smile. Dorothea, known as Dottie or Grandma, was a woman who loved life and her family. She had a deep passion for golf, enjoyed word search puzzles in her later years, and loved trips to the casino. She was also an avid viewer of NCIS, Castle, and the Golf Channel.
She is survived by her children: Gary (Lois) Kravetsky, Edward (Kathy) Kravetsky, Richard (Heidi) Kravetsky, and Catherine (John) Tester; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Nicholas; daughter Cecilia Hazen; and her grandson: Travis Tester.
The funeral will be Friday, May 23rd from the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Martin of Tours Church, Jackson. Interment, Saint Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Thompson. Friends may call Thursday, May 22nd from 5 to 7 pm.
