Dorothea "Dottie" Lou Porter, 81 of Fairmont went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025 in Fairmont, West Virginia. She was born in Fairmont on July 28, 1943, a daughter of the late Davis and Elda Jean Wilson Woodward.
She worked at Westinghouse Lamp Plant. She was a dedicated member for several years at Sunrise Chapel Church in Fairmont. She loved gospel music and was a talented singer for the "Gospel Ambassadors" and her and her husband traveled the country singing and spreading the word of God. She was a giving person who always put other needs ahead of her own. She most loved time with her family, especially cooking for them at family gatherings she would host.
She is survived by her loving husband Verlin Porter, Sr.; three sons Verlin Porter Jr. and his wife Michelle, Robert Porter and his wife Sandra Jo and Michael Porter and his wife Lindsey; one brother Davis Woodward and his partner Michelle; seven grandchildren Nicole Phillips (Eric), Lance Porter, Joseph Porter, Lucas Porter (Darryen), Brooklyn Porter, Paris Porter and Cruz Porter; five great grandchildren Ryan Phillips, Samantha Phillips, Michael Phillips, Knox Porter and Zoey Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Barry Woodward and one sister Ida Jean Satterfield.
Friends and family may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 02, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
