Dorothy (Dot) Irvin Bibbs, widow of William P. Bibbs was born May 01, 2026 to the union of the late Elijah and Rose Irvin. She departed this life November 6, 2025.
Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of six, at First African Baptist Church, under the pastorateofthe late Reverend Homer E. Nutter. She loved the Lord, grew in grace and remained a faithful member until death. She loved her Church Family and enjoyed the fellowship they shared in doing the work of the Lord. Through the years, Dorothy was a member of the Missionary, Women's Sunday School Class, Mass Choir,Jewels and Senior Adults. She was a charter member of the "Memory Garden" and the "Church HistoryCommittee".
Dorothy was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Kentucky State College (KSU) and received her Master's degree in education from the University of Kentucky in 1961.
She enjoyed teaching and working with children; having taught at Carver, Jefferson Davis and Cassidy
Elementary Schools. She retired in 1988 after thirty-six years of teaching. Dorothy was a member of the
Kentucky and the Bluegrass Retired Teachers' Associations, a life member of the Kentucky State University
Alumni Association and a member of the Lexington Chapter of the KSU Alumni Association.
Dorothy was initiated into the Alpha Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., at the Kentucky State
College (KSU). After Graduating, she joined the Lexington Alumni Chapter of the Sorority where she was a
Golden Life Member with over 80 plus years of service.
Dorothy was united in marriage to William P. Bibbs, the love of her life, on December 24, 1948. They were
blessed with 63 plus wonderful years together. To this union two daughters and a son were born. Dorothy
dearly loved her family and felt their love for her. She was lovingly called "Granny Dot"; a name she cherished.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, crocheting, exercising and keeping in touch with family and friends.
One of Dorothy's greatest spiritual experiences was her journey in the Holy Land in 1993, along with other
church members and friends and directed by the late Rev. Dr. L.H. McIntyre.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a loving daughter Teresa Bibbs
Ross, beloved younger brother Charles Irvin, beloved Sister, Ann Irvin McClain, loving daughter in law, Vivian
Lasley-Bibbs and other cherished relatives and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted children; Billie F. Garner and Phillip I. Bibbs; granddaughters; Stephanie
Garner, Simone Bibbs and Sidney Bibbs, grandsons; Marcus Aurelius, Sean (Katie) Garner, Amiri (Shannon)
Ross, Malik Sr.(Tish) Ross, great granddaughters; Yves Aurelius (Mercedez Vest), Kyndall Ross, Desiree
Kinnon, Jordan Garner and Isabelle Garner; great grandsons; Malik Jr, Amirion Ross, Keegan and Amiri Jr
(AJ). She is also survived by nieces Carol Barnett Goodwin, Sandra (Garfield) Wilson, Anna (Jose') Rodriguez,
a nephew Michael (Rachel) Bibbs, special cousins Judy (Herschel) Johnson, Michelle Bibbs (Anthony) Combs;
a host of other dear cousins, family members, treasured friends and a loving Church Family.
