Dorothy I. Blumer

Dorothy I. Blumer, age 87, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton.

Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Friday, May 23, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Jacob Bobby officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is one hour prior the funeral at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Pallbearers are Greg Blumer, Bernie Rombough, Troy Larson, Seth Rombough, Whitlee Larson and Keegan Heisinger.

Dorothy was born on September 21, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa to John and Lillian (Herring) Fick. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated in 1955 from Central High School – “The Castle on the Hill”. Dorothy married Kendall C. Blumer on March 22, 1958 and enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. They first lived in Sioux City where Dorothy was a secretary for Wholesale Grocer. They moved to Yankton in 1970. Dorothy worked for Gurney’s Seed and Nursery, then as a secretary for a construction company and finally at the Department of Social Services for 17 years until she retired. After retiring, Dorothy worked at Four Season Fabric Store and dove into the world of quilting. She produced multiple quilts and other decorative items from her quilting room in the basement. Her family will adore what she created for years to come. She had the most beautiful flower beds and took pleasure in pampering her rose bushes. Dorothy relished her time singing for many years in her church choir at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed getting together with her ladies’ church groups and sewing groups.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Kendall Blumer of Yankton; three children: Cynthia (Bernie) Rombough of Miller, SD, Gregory Blumer, and Julie Blumer of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren: Caitlin Blumer, Troy (Emily) Larson, Seth (Kati) Rombough, Whitlee Larson (Keegan Heisinger), and Claudia (Tanner) Henkel; two great-grandchildren, Georgia Rombough and Theodore Henkel; brother, Richard (Penny) Fick of Richfield, MN; sister-in-law, Lilas Blumer-Eastman (Clayton) of Leeds, IA; brother-in-law, Charles (Milly) Blumer of O’Fallon, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dwain Fick and Kenny Fick.
