Dorothy Briggi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2010.
Dorothy T. Briggi
September 3, 1927 - February 10, 2010

Dorothy, Dot or Dottie as she was known by family and friends, was an amazing lady; a loving, gregarious and accomplished woman who relished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, parishioner, career woman and traveler.

Dot was born in Manhattan to Richard and Emily (Roesch) Quinn on September 3, 1927, she grew up in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx with her older brother Joseph (deceased) and younger sister Barbara. She attended St. Barnabas Catholic School in the Bronx and the Student Art League in Manhattan. On August 28, 1948 Dot married Joseph A. Briggi (Jab).

She is survived by her four children and their families, Geri and Bob of Yardley, PA, Neal and Lin of Raleigh, NC, Joseph Jr., and John and Drew of Yorktown. She is also survived by her sister Barbara White and husband Jack; sister-in-law Helen Quinn; six grandchildren, Kara, Sandy, Jamie, Jessica, Sariah, and Joelle; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Logan.

In 1955 Dot and Jab moved to Yorktown where they resided for almost 50 years. She was active in St. Patrick's church as a parishioner, member of the Mothers' Guild and in her later years as a helping hand to elderly church members. While raising her family she attended the Rochambeau School in White Plains in the early sixties and began a career with United Nuclear Corporation followed by Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School and finally a long term career and retirement from IBM. She was also active, when needed, in the family business, the Coachlight Inn of Yorktown.

Dot and Jab loved to travel, entertain or be entertained – always with family or friends – they visited most of Europe and the Caribbean. For Janie no wedding was too far away, no dinner invitation refused and the mere mention of a vacation or weekend trip elicited "Let's go."

A woman of many passions, Jane enjoyed dancing, music, walking, intellectual pursuits, being at the ocean, food and always had a cup of coffee by her side. She had a special love for her great grand children and "her" animals; in recent years she started most conversations with "How are my little angels doing?" Dottie was an avid reader, learned French from watching PBS, excelled at the New York Times crossword puzzle and never tired of late night talk radio. She enjoyed pencil drawing and oil painting.

Through the early sixties she would reprise her role costumed and made-up as the Halloween witch, visiting each classroom at St Pat's. The progression of screams from each class could be heard as she made her way through the buildings.

After being widowed at the end of December 1999, Dottie spent time with family and friends in Yorktown, New York, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, eventually moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in May 2007. Throughout her life Dottie enjoyed a close bond with family and friends; her smile and love of life always made us laugh and we will continue to remember the love and good times we shared.
