Dorothy Carlson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Veterans Funeral Care on Dec. 4, 2025.
Dorothy was born in 1937 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Edward and Everdeen (DenHollander) Pruim. She passed away on December 1, 2025, after a short illness.

At a young age Dottie, as she was known to everyone, moved with her family to Wyckoff, New Jersey along with a number of other DenHollander family members. She attended school in New Jersey and graduated from Eastern Christian High School.

Dottie is survived by her five children – all from her first marriage to Ernest Kunis – Eileen Kooreman and husband Jack, Dave Kunis and wife Nancy, Paul Kunis and wife Norma, Kristin Osmon and husband Dean, and Bradley Kunis whose wife Shannon is deceased. She has seven grandchildren John, Justin, Austin, Michael, Danielle, Christian, and Elizabeth and three great grandchildren, Sterling, Jack and James. She was preceded in death by her husband Craig Carlson, her brother Edward Pruim and sister Eleanor Unterstein.

She married Craig Carlson in 1977, and a few years later they moved to Clearwater Florida. While living in Clearwater they owned and operated Endearing Years Assisted Senior Living where Dottie had a special love of caring for seniors with dementia. Later they owned and operated Fritzee Freeze on Patricia Ave in Dunedin.

Dottie took pride in creative decorating and making her house feel like a cozy home. She had eclectic taste in furnishings and colors and loved finding a bargain at a second-hand store. She had decorations for every season and holiday and sometimes kept her Christmas tree up year-round. She enjoyed quilting and recently took up crocheting. She loved playing cards with her friends and she also almost always had a jigsaw puzzle going on the table at home.

Dottie loved the Lord and over the years fellowshipped at Lakeside Community Chapel, Crossroads Church, and most recently Clearwater Community Church. She and Craig also enjoyed the community at Raintree Village where they lived for over 20 years.

A service of remembrance will be held in early January.
