Dorothy Mae Carter, 80, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 4, 1945, in Eastville, Virginia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Tucker Fitchett and Maggie Bibbins. She moved to Pennsylvania as a child and graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1963. In 1965, she married her devoted husband, Willie "Sonny" James Carter. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Dorothy retired from DoeSpun Factory and later continued working at Yorktowne Embroidery. A woman of deep faith, she was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and gave back to her community through volunteer work at the Crispus Attucks Active Living Center.

She found joy in painting, playing bingo, line dancing, and cheering for her favorite football teams-the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Willie "Sonny" James Carter; daughters India Y. Banks (Kelvin), Tabitha A. Carter, and a bonus daughter DiShaya R. Kent; grandchildren Kiara, Kelvin, Alexus, Sincer, Qu'Asia, bonus grandchildren, Ahshynae, and Ayahna; and her brother Norman Bibbins (Brenda). She is also remembered fondly by many other beloved family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Tarrence Carter; sisters Elsie Bibbins and Margurite Fulse; brothers Robert Smith, Anthony Bibbins, and Harold Bibbins; and a niece Yvonne Lynn Bibbins.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for family, and the warmth she brought to every gathering. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
