Dorothy Cheney Obituary

Dorothy A. Cheney

Dorothy Ann (Coldiron) Cheney, 86, of Upper Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Dorothy was born December 20, 1939, in Tymochtee Township, Wyandot County, to the late Eddie and Edna (Rothgeb) Coldiron. Dorothy married Larry Lee Cheney, July 2, 1960, in New Winchester, Ohio, celebrating 40 years of marriage until his passing June 20, 2001.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Michael Cheney, Marion and Richard (Alison Walton) Cheney, Upper Sandusky; along with three grandchildren, Jennie (Jeremy) Hart, Jevon (Whitney) Cheney, Lexa (Edward) Kontul; and seven great-grandchildren, Lillian, Jackson & Addalynn Cheney, Carson & Mason Hart, Edward & Anderson Kontul. She is survived by three sisters, Barbara (Brad) Walton, Beverly (Don) Riedel, both of Upper Sandusky, and Virginia (George) Tuttle of Sycamore, along with two sisters-in-law, Margie Coldiron of Tiffin and Corrine "Corky" Coldiron of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Coldiron and Gary Coldiron.

She graduated from McCutchenville High School in 1957. Dorothy enjoyed working for Kroger in Upper Sandusky and for Crawford Ceramics, owned by Etta & Elmer Eley, and retired from Upper Sandusky Community Library in June 2012 after 32 years of service. Dorothy always had a smile, a kind word, and a listening ear for the library's patrons.

She was a longtime member of John Stewart Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. And over the years, Dorothy and Larry shared many adventures, from motorcycle rides in their earlier days to cruising in their MG later on.

Dorothy took great pride in decorating her home for each season and holiday.

Dorothy loved Garage Sale shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Store Sales shopper, not for herself, but for members of her family. She enjoyed following the Cleveland (Indians) Guardians.

Dorothy is deeply missed by her family and those who knew her.
