Cowan, Dorothy Ann Chatterson (“Dot”), age 93, formerly of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, due to heart failure.
Dot received her Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State Teachers College in 1953, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She went on to serve as a teacher in both Texas and Georgia. In June of 1954, she married her loving husband of 57 years, Harry Lynn Cowan, who preceded her in death.
Dot was an active member of Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church for many years and faithfully served at Saint Luke’s Soup Kitchen. In her early years, she loved to sing and dance and even sang lead with her college big band. Later in life, she continued her love of music by singing with the Heart Strings senior choir at Dunwoody Baptist Church.
An extremely accomplished seamstress and baker, Dot delighted in entertaining others. She also had a lifelong love for animals and always shared her home with multiple pets.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dot is survived by her sons, James and John; her grandchildren, Tyler and Virginia; and her great-grandchildren, Roberto and Wylder, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church on February 21st at 11 am.
