Dorothy “Dottie” Lamour Wilson Musten, age 82, of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Mrs. Dottie was born September 10, 1941, the daughter of Cecil Smith and Callie Wilson. Dottie was one of a kind, she had a bright and radiant spirit that was shown throughout her life. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, there was no question she was dedicated to her family. Dottie was a native of Forsyth County and a graduate of RJ Reynolds High and Salem Business College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. Dottie served as Deputy Clerk for Forsyth County Clerk of Superior Court for over 30 years until she retired. Dottie enjoyed spending time with family, going to the beach, and fishing. Dottie was also very involved in East Forsyth High School sporting events where she could be spotted alongside of her husband, Coach Musten. 

Dottie was preceded in death by her first husband and father of their three children, Donald Shoaf and husband, Jack Lee Musten of Kernersville; mother Callie Wilson, and father Cecil Smith, sisters; Melba, Alda, and Sarah; brothers Fred, Ralph, & Earl. Surviving are her three children, daughter; Jill Shoaf Hoppa (Anthony) of Apex, NC; son Timothy Wayne Shoaf (Susan) of Kernersville, NC; daughter; Heather Shoaf Simon (Michael) of High Point, NC, and stepson Danny Musten (Linda) of Hampstead, NC. Grandchildren: Zachary Thomas (Christopher), Anthony “Jake” Hoppa, Jerald “Jerry” Hoppa, Camden Thomas, Mason Shoaf, and three step-grandchildren; Laura Sink (Eric), Sarah Wentzek (Jake), and Evan Musten (Debi) along with several great grandchildren and many special cousins.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dottie’s caregivers: Nora Campbell, Zachary Thomas, and Christopher Vega.

A Celebration of Life to honor Dottie will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst Street in Kernersville with Dr. Steve Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or to First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst Street, Kernersville, NC 27284
