Dorothy Harris Obituary

We celebrate the life of Dorothy Mae Harris - a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on August 9, 1937, in Clarks, Louisiana, Dorothy lived a long, full life devoted to her faith, her family, and her community. She passed peacefully on November 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to bless generations to come.
Mom was a devoted Christian whose love for the Lord guided every step she took. She raised 4 kids on her own, which included 3 boys! She believed deeply in the power of faith, family, and fellowship. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, especially on Sundays, when she would open her doors to friends and church members for a home-cooked meal. Those meals were more than food; they were ministry. She had a special way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved, especially those who needed it most.
For many years, Mom lifted her beautiful voice in the Maranatha Church Choir, singing praises that echoed her devotion to God. Music was her way of sharing her heart - her faith in song, her joy in harmony, her peace in every note. Her children grew up surrounded by that sound, the sound of a mother who loved her Savior and lived her faith out loud.
Mom often declared, "In this house, you will serve the Lord." Those words were more than a saying - they were her foundation. She raised her family with a steadfast commitment to faith and service, teaching by example what it meant to love, forgive, and trust in God's plan.
She is survived by her four children - Terry Dean Shoals, Gregory Lee Shoals and wife Jann Shoals, Ronald Ray Shoals, and Donna Mae Shoals - who carry forward her strength and her faith. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren - Dawon Barron, Andrew Shoals, and Ashton Shoals - and a host of beloved great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of her kindness and grace.
Mom had 10 siblings and is survived by her three siblings - Jaunita, Gwendolyn, and Walter - with whom she shared lifelong bonds of love and laughter.
Mom will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith, open-hearted love, and quiet strength. Her life was a testimony of God's goodness - in every meal shared, every song sung, every prayer whispered. Though her voice may no longer lead hymns in the church choir, her spirit continues to sing in the hearts of all who knew her.
As we say goodbye today, we hold fast to her faith - the same faith she taught us - that this is not the end, but a beautiful home going. Mom is now at peace in the arms of her Savior, where joy knows no end.
Rest in peace, Mama.
Your love will live on in us forever.
