Dorothy Lucille Klein died on August 16, 2023 at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Andrew Klein, son William Klein, grandson Steven Anderson, and sister Marvine Sass. She is survived by her sister Elaine (Alan) Worthington and brother Ronald (Corinne) Butts, daughter Susan (Charles) Anderson and son Paul (Peggy) Klein, grandchildren Nicole (Joshua Pearcy), Richard (Maggie Baugher), and Jacob (Giulia Scalco) Klein, Steve’s wife Robin Anderson, Kristen (Jason) York, great-grandchildren Charles Anderson and Simone, Elliot, and Eoin York, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Dottie was born in Onarga, IL on February 13, 1927. She moved to Chicago as a teenager and graduated from Jones Commercial High School in 1945. She was employed by Eastern Airlines prior to raising her family and retired from Montgomery Wards in 1989. After two decades at Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, AZ, Dottie moved to Park Place of Fountain City in Knoxville, TN to be near her children and their families. She passed away peacefully at Oakwood Senior Living. Her strength and positive attitude as she faced the challenges of aging are admired by all who knew her. As Paul parodied the Wrangler ad many years ago, “There goes Grandma, one tough customer.”
A private family service will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Knoxville, TN. Dottie will be laid to rest with Andy at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and American Council of the Blind.
