Mom,

We still think about you and miss you so very much - especially today, on your 84th birthday. You should know that now I refer to myself as Dorothy's LUCKY daughter, because I got to have you around for so much of my life. Yes, I've been very lucky. I'm sure that you're thrilled that the Vikings are doing so well!! Remember always that we love you Mom............

Dorthy Knowlan's passing just came up when I was searching for Wild Bill. I am so sorry for your loss although I do not know your family well. I met Dr Robert Knowlan when I had my knee operation and he sent my words to Dorthy who was in Florida at the time. I was an employee of the store on Hague and also worked in the store in Maplewood a little when I was a teen going to Central High School in St. Paul. Dorthy came in once in a while and always had a friendly smile and wave. My good friend, Bill Atchison, was a meet cutter in the Maplewood store.

One thing Mr Knowlan (I think it was his brother-it's been close to 50 yrs ago!) got me to do was to make up advertisements on tape of what was on special that week at the grocery store. The first few weren’t very good but I got better with effort. I was beginning to get used to my voice. Little did I know that my life’s work (a pastor - StPaulApostolic.com) would evolve the encouragement from the Knowlans. But I’ll never forget him telling me that I had potential. After this I began to believe in myself and saw things in a different light. I even became more popular at school.

God bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother/grandmother. I never met her, but I heard of how great she and Bill were,(from my grandmother Leona), as Bill was my great great uncle. I wish I could have known her but I'm sure she will be missed, I hope some day the rest of her family can meet ours.

Dear Knowlan Family, it's always so hard to see a love one leave. I have known Wild Bill for over 30 years, and now Dorothy has moved on to be with Bill, please just have Comfort & Faith with the fact that there are more people you don't even know that care! I lossed my father when I was 8, we always shopped at Knowlan's market on Stillwater Road, and i still do. God Bless Bill & Dorothy

I only met Sara and Rob's grandma a few times. Each time though, it was evident that she lived with vigor, a sense of fun, and, above all, compassion for others. The fact that she is so missed, by so many, shows the incredible impact of a life well lived.
