Dorothy Kohlhoff Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 9, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy J. Kohlhoff, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Dorothy passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She was 88 years old.
Dorothy was born on May 9, 1937, in Mecosta, Michigan, to the late David E. Dexter and Florence M. Dexter. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard F. Kohlhoff, her dear daughter, Linda Sue Kohlhoff, and cherished siblings Hilda, Martha, Evy, and George.
She is survived by her devoted children: Patricia Marie Stanley and her husband Steve, Richard Allan Kohlhoff and his wife Sue, and Charles William Kohlhoff; loving siblings: Ruth, Dora, Marty, David, William, and Alfred; and many nieces and nephews, especially her favorite nephew Dave. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Dorothy spent many fruitful years working in guest services. She began her career at Wolverine in Michigan, where she made countless friends and memories before relocating to Maryland. In Hanover, she was a dedicated employee at Red Roof Inn, where she worked for many years. Alongside her husband Richard, she also enjoyed running a boat rental business on Cornfield Creek off the Magothy River.
Dorothy had a passion for puzzles, quilting, and reading. Her quilts, stitched with love and care, are treasured keepsakes for her family. Dorothy's gentle spirit and love of challenge and creativity were evident in her life's pursuits and interactions with those around her, including her earlier years as a member of Charity Baptist Church in Paris, Michigan.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service celebrating Dorothy's life, which will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In remembrance of Dorothy, let us cherish the memories, love, and wisdom she imparted to those around her. She will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts.
