Dorothy “Dot” McCauley went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 91.
She was born on November 18, 1933, in Old Hickory, Tennessee. Dot was a Christian woman, who was known to put her faith first in her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gallatin, since the 1960’s. She truly enjoyed her Sunday school class, The Circle of Love, and volunteered with Homebound Ministries.
Dot was very caring for others, which complimented her career as an educator. Mrs. McCauley was a 3rd grade elementary school teacher for over 30 years, with the Sumner County school system. However, retirement wasn’t for her; Dot went back to work at Sears and had a second retirement. She was also involved with the Citivan Club for many years supporting little league baseball and volunteered with the American Red Cross as well. Dot did all things with love, which made her such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She loved to celebrate all the big and little things in life with her family. In her leisure time, Dot was an excellent cook and enjoyed flower gardening, traveling with her Sunday school class, and the Gallatin Greenwave. To know her was to love her. Although she will be dearly and deeply missed, her family will cherish her memory and take peace that she is in heaven.
Dorothy Jean McCauley is survived by her son, Mason McCauley (Stacey); daughter, Lisa Johnston (Ernie); grandchildren, Stephen Johnston (Coral), Taylor Eaton (James III), Sarah Tidwell (Ryan), Chandler McCauley (Victoria); great-grandchildren, Mac McCauley, Andi McCauley, Liv McCauley, James Eaton IV, Holyn Johnston, Rylah Johnston, and Trace Tidwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jerry McCauley; father, Richard M. Wilson; mother, Verda Gray Wilson; sister, Margie McGill; and brother, Marion Wilson.
Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center has been entrusted with the final arrangements of Mrs. Dot McCauley. All funeral services will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Gallatin (located: 205 E Main St, Gallatin, TN, 37066).
Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. and continue until service time at 1:00 P.M. officiated by Mike Corbin. Interment in Hermitage Memorial Gardens (located: 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN, 37138) will immediately follow. Those serving as pallbearers are Stephen Johnston, Chandler McCauley, Ryan Tidwell, James Eaton III, Nelson Wilson, and Andrew McGill.
In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to Homebound Ministries, through First Baptist Church of Gallatin.
The McCauley Family would also like to give a special thank you, to Charter Senior Living, formerly known as Morningside Assisted Living, for their wonderful care and compassion.
