Dorothy Lee Burks-McDavis
Dorothy McDavis was born to the late Elijah Burks and Hester Dixon Burks on October 10, 1948 in Shaw, Mississippi. She was the second oldest in the family of eleven children. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in (Sandpit) Shaw, Mississippi under the leadership of Rev. L.R. Perry, where she remained a member of the Pleasant Grove M.B. Church until her death.
Dorothy was educated in the Mississippi Public School System where she attended elementary school at McEvans School in Shaw, Mississippi. She graduated from Eastside High School in 1970 in Cleveland, Mississippi. After graduating high school, she started working at Baxter Laboratories where she worked for 42 years while attending Coahoma Junior College. She later united in holy matrimony to Mr. Charles McDavis Sr. on October 1, 1973 and were married for 48 years. To this union, they were blessed with 2 beautiful children: Renee McDavis-Christian and Charles McDavis Jr. and one special son Roderick Fulton.
Dorothy dedicated her life to upholding her Christian values by way of exemplifying acts of service to others. She empowered, instilled hope, and motivated those who were less fortunate without seeking worldly recognition. She was loyal, genuine to her family and friends, and always sought good in everyone she met. Dorothy answered her summons and transitioned peacefully to her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, November 30, 2024. She was proceeded in death by her spouse, Rev. Charles McDavis, Sr.; father, Elijah Burks; mother, Hester Burks; brother, Willie Burks.
She leaves to cherish her memories with her devoted children, daughter, Renee (Fred) Christian of Kennesaw, GA; son, Charles (Stephanie) McDavis Jr. of Olive Branch, MS; brothers, James (Cynthia) Burks, Roy (Betty) Burks, Troy (Vickie) Burks, Jerry Burks and Lamar Burks of Chicago, IL and Duke (Francis) Burks of Greenville, MS; sisters, Joyce Lewis and Flora Sellers, of Atlanta, GA and Diane Faye (Harris) Burks-Robinson of Gibsonville, NC and special God daughter, Raven Barnes; Sister-in-law, Cora Green; Brother-in-law, Timothy Smith and Richard Valderman and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, Ora Bradley and Mae West Dixon and cousins and friends.
