Dorothy Lou Nelsen

Dorothy Nelson, 76, of Dumont, died Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, January 5, at Trinity Reformed Church Allison, burial will be at the Dumont Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Dumont is caring for Dorothy and her family. Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Trinity Reformed Church, Allison.

Dorothy Lou Nelsen was born September 9, 1949, in Hampton, daughter of Merle Nelsen and Marjorie Ubben. She attended school in Hansell and graduated for Hampton High School. She then earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in Social Work. She later returned to school and became an RN. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for more than twenty years.

Dorothy attended Trinity Reformed Church in Allison, she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and growing flowers in her garden. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed cross stitching.

Family includes her sister: Bridget (Dalen) Meyer, Dumont; sister-in-law: Pam Stewart-Coburn, Lodi, CA; nieces: Holly, Heidi, Lauren & Tiffany; several great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Merle Nelsen and Marjorie Ubben, step-father, Russell Durand, and brother Merlyn Nelsen.
