Dorothy Pahl Obituary

Dorothy "Dody" Ann Anderson Pahl, born on March 24, 1944, was the 8th of 13 children born to the parents of Chester and Dorothy Anderson. She passed away on October 23rd at the Atkinson Good Samaritan Center.

She loved reciting many stories of living on the farm, sharing a bed with her sisters and riding the family horse, Blondie.

She attended school in one of Holt County's Country Schools and then attended and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1962. Following high school, she completed secretarial school and was employed by Garnsey and Wheeler based out of Greeley, Colorado. It was there that she met and married Dan Pahl on April 2, 1966. Through the marriage, they moved around and finally settled down in Bloomfield, New Mexico. The couple shared two daughters, Susan and Vicki. They divorced in 1982 after several years of marriage.

Dody loved to travel. Her first great overseas adventure was visiting Japan. She cherished all the sister trips that spanned from visiting Florida, Minnesota, Wyoming and Colorado; she participated in a church trip to Jerusalem and enjoyed a Bahamas cruise. She always jumped at the chance to visit and travel with her Navy daughter overseas and stateside. Dody resided in NM until 2000 when she decided to retire from banking after 30 years and moved to Illinois to live with her daughter, Vicki and grandson, Daniel.

Dody suffered with the disease of Dementia and moved into Prairie Winds in February 2017 and later over to Good Samaritan Center in 2024. She was able to share the last few years with two of her sisters in Prairie Winds and Good Sam.

She enjoyed playing Bingo, completing her word search puzzles and embroidery. She particularly enjoyed everyone sharing jellybeans, Dr. Pepper and Snickers with her.

She loved the title of Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She stepped up to her grandma's duties every chance possible. On many road trips to Nebraska and other places, she usually had her granddaughter, Paige, with her. They shared a very special bond. On a special note, she was an invaluable asset for her Navy daughter, Vicki, with the aid of stepping in to care for her grandson, Daniel, in Vicki's absence. She claimed Daniel to be her own son in many regards. There was no greater love and care given.

She was met in heaven by her parents, Chester and Dorothy Anderson, 3 brothers, Dean, Garold, Vernon and 2 sisters, Betty and Elaine.

She is survived by her children, Susan Burkett of New Mexico and Vicki Pahl of Buckeye, Arizona. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Paige, Logan, Cheyanne and Daniel. She is also survived by siblings, Elvon (Carolyn) Anderson and Bernard (Leile) Anderson of Columbus, NE; Mary (J. Harvey) Scott of Tulsa, OK, Eileen (Dale) Osborne and Clayton (Eileen) Anderson of Atkinson, NE. Janice (Mike) Hibbs of Minnesota, and Diana DenHerder of Tampa, Florida. And a large group of nieces and nephews.
