Dorothy M. Protz

Dorothy M. Protz, 91, formerly of Hallstead and Selinsgrove, PA went home to be with the Lord on October 24,2024. She was reunited with her husband of 55 years, Michael Protz Jr. He predeceased her in June 2014. She was also welcomed in to Heaven by her parents, John W. and Anna Myrtle Miller; and also by an infant daughter, Cindy Marie. She was the last surviving of her generation.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Beth Ann and Richard Prewitt, Jr., Amy Lynn and Stephen J. Gresh III., and Michael III and Monica Protz; six grandchildren, Brian (Mackenzie) Prewitt, Kimberly(Matt) Moses, Stephen Gresh IV, Michael Gresh, Emily Protz, and Nicholas Protz; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who became her family. She was excited about thoughts of becoming a great grandmother.
Dorothy graduated from Clairton High School in 1950. She started her career with US Steel in Clairton and worked as a secretary from 1951-1958. Dorothy worked diligently as a domestic engineer, moving to Hallstead in the late 1960s. In 2017 she retired after 35 years of employment for the Hallstead/Great Bend Joint Sewer Authority, as their secretary/treasurer. She was the only woman inducted into the PA Federation of Sportsmen's Club (PFSC) Hall of Fame. Dorothy enjoyed playing Yahtzee and BINGO, crossword puzzles, scratching off lottery tickets, and coloring. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to her caregivers over the years, especially, Christine, Grace, Heidi, and Michele. Your love and compassionate care for Dorothy will never be forgotten. Thank you also to Dr. Jacobs, Sharon CRNP, and the entire staff and volunteers at Emmanuel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danville, PA for your expertise and kindness.
An Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., noon, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 106 Rogers Avenue, Endicott, NY. Interment will be made in Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Cemetery on the corner of Route 12 & Kattleville Road, Binghamton, NY 13901. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m., Saturday morning at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc.,prior to the service.
