DOROTHY JEAN RAMOS
Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt & Friend
Dorothy Jean (Berning) Ramos, a resident of Glenaire, MO, entered her heavenly home on February 6, 2024. She passed peacefully at NorthCare Hospice House surrounded by family one day prior to her 67th birthday. Dorothy’s strength in the face of a third bout with cancer was an inspiration to all she encountered. Her body can now rest and her soul has found peace.
Dorothy Jean was born February 7, 1957, in St. Joseph, MO, the fourth of six children to Donald and Frances (Walsh) Berning. She grew up in St. Joseph and was a graduate of Lafayette High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jerold Allen “Jerry” Ramos on January 16, 1978, and they were blessed with three children, Frances, Donald, and Jerold Jr.
Dorothy took a great deal of pride in her work as a Cafeteria Manager in the Liberty School District. Over the span of three decades and across multiple locations, she faithfully fed the students and staff of the district. She considered it a personal mission to ensure no child in her care went without a hot and nutritious lunch. She was beloved by many in the district for these efforts.
Her survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, Jerry; children; Frances Moody, Don Ramos (Sarah), and Jerry Ramos (Brandi Hamilton); grandchildren, Zoe Lewis (Garrett), Evan Moody, Sean Ramos, Bryn Ramos, Cole Ramos, Owen Ramos, Jerry Ramos III, Chris Ramos, Laura Ramos, Khloe Ramos, and Roddy Hamilton; great granddaughter, Amalia Lewis; siblings, Bonnie Schueth, Bob Berning, Donna Berning, Paul Berning, and Connie Marsh; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and her 11 beloved turtles .
We invite those who knew and adored Dorothy to celebrate a life well lived with her family at Shoal Creek Community Church (6816 N. Church Road, Pleasant Valley, MO) on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would prefer support to children in the school district struggling to pay for their hot school lunch. Please see below:
