Dorothy Helen Rasmussen

Dorothy Helen Rasmussen began her eternal journey with the angels on August 5, 2011, after bravely battling illness and physical setbacks over recent months. Dorothy was born on May 25, 1921, in Detroit to Helen (Kully) and Fred Norton. The family moved to Corunna, MI, where Dorothy spent her early childhood years, subsequently relocating back to Detroit and graduating from Blessed Sacrament High School in 1939. After leaving high school, Dorothy attended the Detroit Business Institute for vocational training as an administrative assistant; leading to employment as a receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper, for a private optometry practice, in the old Eaton Towers building in Detroit. Dorothy married her soul mate and love of her life, Clint Rasmussen on a beautiful fall day in September 1946. During their nearly 65 years together, they raised a family of three sons, moving at times between Pittsburgh, Detroit and Chicago. Keenly interested in the workings of the financial markets, Dorothy kept pace with the investment world and ensured the family budget was always in balance. Dorothy also enjoyed sharing time with her family, especially preparing first-class meals for all to enjoy. She was devoted to her beloved church, rarely missing an opportunity to celebrate the blessings that life bestowed. Keenly interested in history, she always kept an on eye on current events and how in many ways, today's challenges reflect the past. Dorothy joins her parents and two brothers in heaven, while her husband Clint survives. She leaves a legacy of three sons, Richard (Melinda), of Midland, MI, Alan, of Colorado Springs, CO and Robert (Vicki) of Ann Arbor, MI. She also leaves behind her greatest joys, two grandchildren, Valerie and Sean. The family will receive friends Monday, Aug 8, 2011, between 4-8 p.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road (between Maple and Big Beaver), with Rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug 9, 2011, 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 4580 N. Adams Road, Troy. Preceding Mass, farewell prayers will be offered at the funeral home Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by procession to the church. At the family's request, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
