Mrs. Dorothy Ann "Dot" Scott, 81 of Iveytown Rd., Lincolnton, Ga. entered into rest on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Southern Manor, Washington, GA. The youngest of eight children born to Joseph "Aut" and Gussie Bare Howell and the last to join them all in their heavenly home. What a wonderful reunion it must have been.
Dot was raised in Ashe County, North Carolina, a hamlet nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains where she graduated from Ashe Central High School in 1959. Later in the 1960's she moved to North Augusta/Augusta before moving to Lincolnton in 1980 when she married Ben Scott. They operated Scott's Machine Shop where she served as bookkeeper and secretary until they retired. The two of them had a good life together traveling, camping, and visiting family and friends near and far. Several years back, due to health issues, they slowed down and lived a quiet life in Iveytown. Her favorite pastime at that point was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved to laugh, and it was contagious when you were witness to it! She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she loved to sing and was a member of the choir. She also assisted with preparation of communion each month.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Benjamin F. "Ben" Scott; sons; Christopher Barry Hudler and wife Carla of Lincolnton and Joseph Floyd Scott and wife Joanne of Martinez; daughters, Susan Hudler Heitmann and husband Chris of Lincolnton, Virginia Scott "Ginny" Crook and husband Donny of Marshallville and Teresa Scott Steyer and husband Cary of Evans; grandchildren, Kristen Cartledge, (Grant) Ricky Nelson, Jackson Scott, Juliet Scott, Gavin Heitmann, Patricia Plenikowski, Stephanie Barr, Taylor Crook (Stephanie) and Brandon Goolsby (Sandy) nine great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Austin Goolsby. Being the youngest of her siblings, she grew up alongside a lot of her nieces and nephews who adored and will greatly miss Aunt Dot, as well.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10 am until 11am at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 am at Bethany United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Rd. SE, Smyrna, Ga 30080.
