Mrs. Dorothy Mae "Dot" Scott Simmons was born to the late Lloyd Scott and Emma Jane Alston Scott on August 24, 1940, in the town of Littleton, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at UNC Health Nash in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was truly one-of-a-kind, a gem that shined brightly in the world, and whatever life threw at her, she managed to tackle it head-on and with grace.

Dorothy received her formal education through the Halifax County Public School System and attended the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. In 1962, she left home and found herself bound for New York City, with her bouncing baby boy, Charles Alexander Scott, hooked on her side. The two of them tackled "The Big Apple" fearlessly with a drive for success. A few years later, Dorothy met the love of her life, Lubie Simmons, and the lifelong journey of the Simmons family began.

For many years, Dorothy was employed as a housekeeping professional and nanny at Mrs. Dix Childcare Service. She nurtured, reared, prepared, and mothered many children while also giving her heart's best to her own son. She also became employed by the Electrical Product Industry in Flushing, New York, where she worked side-by-side with her brother, Lloyd "Bill", for many years. "Dot" loved this job because it gave her the opportunity to be hands-on with intricate equipment for various medical industries and airlines.

Later in life, Dorothy, Lubie, and Charles returned to North Carolina, and they settled in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. For many years, she worked as an Associate with the Coker family at Towel Town. This was her passion! She loved all styles of linen, specialty glassware, and figurines, but most of all, the regular interaction with customers on a regular basis.

Dorothy loved her family, the holidays, and being a homebody. She was no stranger to hosting lavish get-togethers at her home, especially during the holidays, which brought her great joy to fellowship, share laughter, and enjoy good times.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters: Barbara "Bunk", Elsie, Shirley, Emma "Nook", Sandra "Betty", and Margaret; her brothers, Willis "Red", Ronald "Bo", Lloyd "Bill", and Reemus; nieces and nephews; and her great-nephew, Donnell, who held a special place in her heart.

The precious memories of her life and love will be forever treasured by her daughter-of-the-heart, Belinda Simmons Hester and her husband, Kenneth "Tony" Hester; her grandson, Reece; her uncle, Louis "Brick" Scott; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ottley and Vale Simmons; a multitude of nieces and nephews who cherished and loved their "Aunt Dot"; other family members who will all recall her laughter and vibrant spirit; her neighbors and dear friends for over twenty-five years, Selma and Leroy Epps; two loving companions and friends she grew close to in recent years, Evangeline Bullock and Pam.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, North Carolina. Bishop Lloyd T. Alston, will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 590 Enterprise Road, Littleton, North Carolina.
