Dorothy Manss Stedfast

Dorothy Manss Stedfast passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023, at Harbor's Edge in Norfolk. She was 93. Dot was born to Pearl (Polly) and Walter Manss in Wilmington, Delaware. Her parents and her brother, Walter, predeceased her. Dot graduated from Wilmington Friends School, Bradford Jr. College, and the University of North Carolina, where she was a member of the Order of the Old Well and the Senior Honor Society. She met Philip Stedfast while attending UNC and married him on November 17, 1951. Dot and Phil briefly lived in West Chester, Pennsylvania and Columbia, South Carolina before moving to Norfolk in 1963. Dot and Phil were married for 50 years before Phil died in 2002. Dot is survived by two sons, Phil (Sarah) and Jeff (Jennifer); grandchildren, Molly Wilson (James), Barrie Byrne (Patrick), Alden Stedfast, George Stedfast, and Ellis Stedfast. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Phoebe, Robin, and Wyatt.

Dot belonged to St. Andrews Episcopal Church and worked on various committees. She was a member of the Hermitage Auxiliary Board and was a past Treasurer of the Junior League of Norfolk - Virginia Beach. Dot loved people she met along life's path and loved her church. She described herself as a full-time mom and could not have done a better job at her vocation. She loved watching her sons play sports and the tailgate parties that followed, but mostly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A service will be held at St Andrews Church, Norfolk, on Saturday, March 4, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to St Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1009 W. Princess Anne Rd, Norfolk, VA 23507 or The American Cancer Association.
