Dorothy Steinacker Obituary

Dorothy ("Dot") Louise Steinacker of Bel Air, Maryland, formerly of Dundalk, died on April 3, 2023. She was born to Floyd and Ada Watson on June 20, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, and is predeceased by her parents, her sister Janice Hyde, and her husband of 52 years, Roger.

Dot is survived by her daughter Erica (Ted) Stoecker of Reston, Virginia; her daughter Tonia (Peter) Morssink of Bel Air, Maryland; and her grandson Liam Janis. In addition to a large circle of cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews, she is also survived by her brother-in-law George Hyde, her nephew Michael Hyde, and her niece Pam (Tom) Walinski.

As a child and young adult, she formed life-long bonds with many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Western Maryland. Dot graduated from Dundalk Senior High School and then Frostburg University and became a physical education teacher for special education students in Baltimore City. After retiring as an administrator at Claremont Middle/High School #307, she continued working with Special Olympics Maryland and later volunteered as a coach for the Baltimore City Special Olympics Unified Softball Team. After moving to Bel Air, Dot became active in her church, forming close friendships and supporting community outreach efforts.

A celebration of life gathering for friends and family will be planned in the near future. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to the Baltimore City Special Olympics Unified Softball Team, Cokesbury Memorial United Methodist Church, or Piney Plains United Methodist Church; information on how to donate can be found at www.inmemoryofdotsteinacker.com.

Dot will be remembered as generous with her time, energy, and humor; for her enjoyment of birds and the fox family that lived in her yard; and for her love of her little dog Bonnie, who will be lovingly cared for by Joan Harris, Dot's sister-in-law.

We were very saddened to hear of your mom´s passing Erica. But also so glad that you and your sister got to take that wonderful trip to Alaska and be together. You must be very grateful for that time you shared.
With much love. Marguerite and Stephen

I met Dot when I began playing for Cokesbury Memorial UMC. She engaged me in conversation quickly and discovered like herself, I was a retired teacher. She often met me for lunch and we would discuss so many things about church, family and teaching. I invited her to join a educator's group and she considered it at the time. During the pandemic, Dot and the ladies of Cokesbury invited me to join them as we gathered at various houses for wine and talk. Although I have only known her since 2016, she became a close friend to me and Harold.
