Dorothy Teeter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 30, 2026.
Dorothy Jane Teeter, 96, of Oil City, passed away Tuesday morning, January 27, 2026, after an extended illness.

Born February 27, 1929, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Genevieve Huff Remus.

Jane married George Robert Teeter in Oil City on April 30, 1948, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2025. Both were members of Christ Episcopal Church in Oil City and involved with many youth activities at the church and in the community when raising their children. She also served as a Sunday School teacher.

For many years, Jane was well known as the friendly redhead behind the cosmetics counters of the Cranberry Bon-Ton and Oil City Brody's Department Store. She loved to cook and bake and is well remembered for serving elaborate a la carte meals to her family and their friends. Visitors were always welcomed to share a seat at the family table.

An avid sports fan, Jane enjoyed watching her husband, children, and grandchildren participate in local athletics. She served in multiple leadership positions in the PTA and was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Oil City Hospital, and Ladies of Elks. She was always willing to help raise donations for local organizations that served children in the community.

A devoted and much-loved wife and mother, Jane is survived by four children: Tina Abplanalp Czlonka and her husband Tony, of Middlesex, NC; Tim Teeter and his wife Peg, Jill Teeter, and Troy Teeter, all of Oil City; and the following grandchildren: Jason Abplanalp of Etters, PA; Sarah Teeter of Ithaca, NY; Jacob Teeter, attending college at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio; Zachary Wenner, and Andrew, Adam, and Aric Moilanen. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter - Mrs. Richard Moilanen (Janie), two brothers - Harold and her twin brother John Remus, and three sisters - Mrs. Charles Shreckengost (Ardelle), Mrs. Jack Hagan (Connie), and Marianne Remus.

There will be no visitation. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Venango County Humane Society in Seneca, PA, since Jane loved cats and dogs and adopted many of them during her life. Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City is in charge of arrangements.
