Dorothy Geneva Townsend

Mrs. Dorothy Geneva Buchanan Townsend, 79, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at UNC-BR Morganton, following a period of declining health. Dorothy was born on December 20, 1942 in Avery County to the late Claude Buchanan and Thelma Louise Winkler Buchanan. She was retired from Duracell-SAFT in Valdese, and was a longtime member of Crosslink Church. She loved her church family and all her pastors, enjoyed her friends at the VFW, was a big fan of NASCAR, especially Kyle Busch and Chase Elliot, and pulled for the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin Daniel Townsend, a daughter, Cathy Sue Townsend, two brothers, Jack and Ronald Buchanan, and a grandson, Jason Allen Huffman. Survivors include her four children; Patricia Townsend Philbeck of Shelby, Billy Lee Townsend and wife Katrina of Connelly Springs, Larkin "Fuzz" Eugene Townsend and wife Karen of Rutherford College, and Eva "Susie" Townsend Ward and husband Christopher of Catawba. Also surviving are two brothers, Johnny Buchanan and Charles Richardson, five sisters; Christine Hurley, Grace Shook, Judy Oyer, Michelle Luetge and Charlotte Swain, 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Crosslink Church with Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Jonathan Reece officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Crosslink Church in Connelly Springs.
