Our beloved Dorothy Christine Turner-Lacy entered this life on December 25, 1943 and departed on August 14, 2022. Dorothy was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Reverend Nathaniel Lenard Lacy, Jr. of Huntington, WV; her parents, Robert and Alice Briggs Turner of Jamaica, New York; and her grandparents, Deacon Cornelius and Deaconess Dorothy Graves Briggs of Petersburg, VA. She is also preceded in death by many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Dorothy loved family and often attended or sponsored family reunions and events.
Dorothy loved the Lord and was devoted to active service at Johnson Memorial Methodist Church. Dorothy was an active part of her church family, regularly attending worship and small group Bible study and fellowship events. For several years she was a Trustee of the church and held the position of secretary of the Trustees. During the church s renovations, Dorothy was a source of knowledge for ADA guidelines, helping to assure that the church was accessible and welcoming to all. She and her late husband, Reverend Nathaniel (Nat) Lacy faithfully served for years in the church and Huntington community.
Dorothy received her formal education in Queens, New York. She obtained a bachelor s degree from the City University of New York and pursued a master s degree at New York University (shy of 6 hours to completion). She loved interior and architectural design, evidenced in her homes. Dorothy was a strong, caring, ethical, civic-minded individual who was not afraid to speak her mind on any topic. She was known for her intelligence, wit, and privacy.
Dorothy s career spanned many directions. She was president/owner of Kaydee Maintenance Company in Queens, NY; owner of a kennel raising and selling Doberman Pinschers; director of a Brooklyn, NY based Manpower staffing center; and Housing Authority Developer Assistant in Huntington, WV working with multi-million dollar community development projects involving housing investments, purchases, and acquisitions. Dorothy was also known throughout as an advocate for individual housing rights and fairness in business matters. She was an integral part of the Huntington business and clergy community.
Dorothy leaves behind one uncle, Carroll C. Briggs (Virginia) of Petersburg, VA; a stepson, Nathaniel Lenard Lacy, III of Santa Fe, NM; a sister-in-law, Bea Davis and niece by marriage, Amy Davis Bradley of California; and a host of cousins and friends. Dorothy will be sorely missed by all; yet, we know her eternal goal was Heaven and to see Jesus. Dorothy Christine, may you rest in peace. The Family)
