Dorothy E. Williams, 84 of Dakota City, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday morning, September 30, 2024 in the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.
Dorothy was born December 13, 1939 in Humboldt County, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Weber) Janssen. She grew up on a farm between Bradgate and Bode, played basketball while attending Bradgate Schools and graduating from Bradgate High School in 1957. In June of 1958 Dorothy was united in marriage to Jim Hamilton. Two children were born to the union, Barbara and Rod, though the marriage later dissolved. Dorothy raised her children, making their home in Dakota City while working for Hawkeye Harvester. Dorothy also held the position as acting air traffic controller for the Humboldt Airport. She later moved to Fort Dodge. In August of 1981, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ron Williams. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge before returning to Dakota City in 1987. Dorothy worked for Gordon’s Jewelers before transferring to Zales Jewelry where she managed the Crossroads Mall store for numerous years retiring in 2015. She and Ron also owned and operated RJ Beverages for a number of years. Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, caring for family flowers handed down over the years. Family was most important, and she would always say, “Live With Love & Laughter”.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Barbara (Jay) Wiuff of Rutland and Rod (Lynee) Hamilton of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, her grandchildren; Jennifer (Eric) Skow, Aaron (Christina) Johnson, Matthew (Miranda) Rasmussen, Angela (Mike) Stephenson, Jessica (Tommy) King, Jordain Croker, Tyler (Margaux) Hamilton and Haley (Dalton Streff) Hamilton, fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland Williams two brothers and their wives Dennis & Norma Janssen and Ervin & Betty Janssen.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10th at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial will be in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. www.masonlindhart.com
