Doug Batchelder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries-Pinnacle Peak Mortuary on Mar. 29, 2026.
Doug Batchelder, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died on March 24th, 2026, following a life marked by dedication, service, humor, and deep love for his family. A native of Seattle, Washington, Doug graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in economics and remained a proud lifelong supporter of the Huskies.

From 1969 to 1972, Doug served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service was a lasting source of pride and one of the highlights of his life. After his time in the Air Force, Doug built a successful career as a bank executive, working at Sears, Bank of America (Seafirst), and Harris Bank.

Doug and his wife, Elizabeth Jane "EJ" Batchelder, spent many happy years in Spokane, Washington, and Scottsdale, Arizona, where they built treasured friendships and made lasting memories.

Doug is survived by EJ, his loving wife of more than 25 years; his daughter, Chelsea Winterfeld (Jordan) of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Sarah and Xander; his son, Zachary Batchelder of Olympia, Washington; his stepson, Christopher Peterson (Yazmine) of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchild Calliope; and sister-in-law Barbee Dearborn of Phoenix, Arizona.

Doug's joys were both simple and specific: a dry martini, good king crab, and most famously: donuts. He was a man of great humor and found joy in appreciating life's everyday pleasures. He also leaves a special legacy of love for all animals, but especially Jackson Blue, his Australian Shephard, and his beloved cat, KoKo Bean.

Doug lived a good, full life and will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Memorial information: A viewing will be held on Friday, April 10th from 10:30am-12:30pm at Messinger Mortuary (8555 E Pinnacle Peak Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85255) and Military Honors to occur at 1pm at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona (2828 E Pinnacle Peak Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85024). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, St. Mary's Food Bank, or Seattle Children's Hospital.
