He was baptized on March 29, 1958, and later confirmed on May 7, 1972, at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He graduated valedictorian from Paullina High School in 1976. On September 2, 1977, Doug was united in marriage to Debra Traver at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. Doug farmed for 40 years, from 1976-2016. While farming, he furthered his education at Northwest Iowa Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Northwestern College. Doug then began working at Iowa State Bank in Paullina as a loan officer. He and Deb also managed Mill Creek Concessions for many years. Doug passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at their home, reaching the age of 65 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
Doug was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was also a member of the Paullina Lion’s Club and Sons of the American Legion for several years. Doug’s biggest joy was spending time with his family and especially playing with his grandchildren. Doug showed love for his family and community through acts of service. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, raising livestock, gardening, planting trees, learning history, reading, writing and carpentry.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Deb of Paullina; children and their spouses, Danielle and Garret Reeder of Ankeny, Iowa, Reagan and Thor Klinker of Primghar, Morgan and Tyler Bruck of Audubon, Iowa, Colton and Emily Ebel of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and Terran and Andrew Weaver of Sutherland; grandchildren, Declan, Atticus, Bowen, Blake, Vince, Beckett, Pierce, Adeline, Bridger, Silas, and twin boys on the way.
