Doug Keller

Funeral Services for Doug Keller, 71, of New England, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Evangelical Bible Church in Dickinson.  Burial will follow at Rainy Butte Lutheran Cemetery in New England.

Visitation for Doug will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2023 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a prayer service taking place at 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Doug passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at West River Health Services in Hettinger.

Douglas R. Keller was born on April 5, 1952 in Stark County to William and Anna (Olson) Keller. He grew up on the family farm south of New England as the youngest of three children. He attended school in New England and graduated from New England High School in 1971. He attended college at Dickinson State University before transferring to Trinity Bible College. It was there that he met Sharon Waltner. The two were married on May 25, 1974 in Marion, South Dakota. The couple made their home on the Keller Farm, where they would raise their three children. Doug was grateful to share his love of God with his family while raising them on the land he grew up on.

He was a kind, loving man who loved Jesus with his whole heart. He was devoted to his family as a faithful husband, loving dad, a proud, playful grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. And he loved his family unconditionally. He could visit with anyone as if they were a long-time friend. He was an adoptive father and grandpa to many. He made everyone feel special.

He loved farming. Some of the favorite family memories were made riding around with grandpa, especially helping him eat his lunch. He could fix anything. He could make anything with wood. He enjoyed playing cards and board games. He liked watching sports and especially enjoyed cheering on those he loved.

His sense of humor and quick wit were second to none. He made everyone smile and feel loved. He could sing a song or hum a tune for just about everything. He was generous, forgiving, fair, a man of his word, a man of integrity, a hard worker. Traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting were things he enjoyed.

He was a man dedicated to serving his community. He served on the New England Assembly of God board, the New England Public School board, West River Regional Hospital board, and Southwest Grain board. He was an EMT on the New England Ambulance.

The most important thing in his life was to love and follow Jesus. He stood firm in his faith. He loved leading worship and teaching Sunday school. He left a beautiful legacy for his children and grandchildren. A legacy of love and a life of following Jesus. We are so proud of the race he ran in this life. We find ourselves feeling the weight of this loss, yet overwhelmed with the thought that he is experiencing true glory with our Lord.

Doug is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Carmelita (Dale) Daley of Dickinson, Nathan (Amanda) Keller of Williston, and Melissa (Joe) Williams of Spearfish, SD; grandchildren, Isaac, Morgan, Erin, Jaden, Kylie, Eva, Liam, and Wes; brother, Duane (Debra) Keller of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna; his sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Don Wilhelm; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Waltner; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clifford and Ida Waltner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the New England Ambulance.
