Douglas Ray Asbury, Sr. ObituaryDouglas Ray Asbury, Sr., age 72 years, of Street, MD died at his home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 7:52 am. He was the husband of Sandra K. (Holbrook) Asbury and they observed their 54th. wedding anniversary on August 15, 2024.
Ray was born in Maryland on July 4, 1952, the son of the late Irvin and Katherine (Matthews) Asbury. During the 1970s, Ray worked as a clockmaker at Danecker Clock in Fallston, MD. Later, he worked as a cabinetmaker for Sterling Cabinet Design Center in Whiteford, MD. For most of his working life, Ray drove a fuel oil truck for Southern States.
He is a charter member of the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company and had previously been a member of the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company.
Ray enjoyed helping with work on the farm, riding his Harley-Davidson and especially participating in garden tractor pulling competitions with his grandchildren. Gathering around a bonfire with his family and friends always brought him joy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Son: Douglas R. Asbury, Jr. and his wife, Erin of Street, MD
Daughter: Kelly M. Wiley and her husband, Michael of Street, MD
Five grandchildren: Andrew Asbury, Sean Wiley, Brooke Wiley, Logan Asbury and Kaese Asbury
Two sisters: Mary Spurgeon of N. Tazewell, VA
Linda Ritz of Stewartstown, PA
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Leon, Carl and Bud Asbury
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 17 from 6 - 7:30 pm at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA.
The funeral service will begin at 7:30 pm on Sunday evening. Rev. Dr. John E. McKnight of the Reformation Bible Church will officiate.
Interment will be private.
Contributions to the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, 1407 Pylesville Road, Whiteford, MD 21160 would be appreciated.
